Called into the Lucan high street branch on Monday to buy Paracetamol. I asked for an Irish brand. The blond haired female assistant showed me 2 different packs. One was Panadol, 24 tablets which she stated was an Irish brand and priced at €5.95. The other was a Dutch brand, 24 tablets priced at €3.95. I had to double check the price as I was astounded particularly that a medicine produced in Ireland could be this exorbitantly priced. I declined the offer on principle. What is happening to our beautiful little country when a pharmacy can charge triple the price for a drug produced here. What was also astonishing was that the pharmacy assistant in question was almost arrogant when I questioned the price and shot me an impatient shake of the head when I declined the sale. As I was leaving the shop I overheard the assistant whispering and sniggering to another male and female customer who were waiting to be served. The tone of the comments were disparaging to say the least. I would rather be principled than be the victim of a “day light robbery”. 24 Irish produced Paracetamol can be purchased in ‘Healthwave’ pharmacies and online at a cost of €1.99. I also asked the assistant about expired nebules stating that my Mother had recently died and if they could as my local pharmacy, assist me regarding disposal of same. The answer was unsurprisingly NO…… Shame on you for your overall disrespectful customer treatment. A little kindness goes a long way.
