Beware - Californian sharks, not harmless Kiwis

Update: Kiwico have renewed my faith in them. They have agreed to refund me and the interaction was fair and reasonable. If you face the issue I describe below then reach out to them. Great product. BUT the company are the worst sort of corporate you can get. T’s & C’s are so long you will never read them, and that’s what they want. If you do read them, they are written so that they can literally deliver anything they like, cancel your subscription at any time, change your subscription to whatever they want and change the price whenever they want. Auto-subscriptions arbitrarily renew before the renewal date and they charge way more than your original subscription. We saw a payment of £400 leave our account and then found it was a non-refundable 12 month subscription which was renewed more than a week before the renewal date with no prior notice. The original 12 month subscription was £180. We immediately cancelled and they confirmed that we wouldn’t get any refund but the following year’s subscription won’t be renewed… thanks for that. If they continue to behave like this then you wonder how long they will be in business…

Kiwico tries to trap customers and…

Kiwico tries to trap customers and charge subscription renewals without approval. I put exactly 5.5 months on my calendar as a reminder to cancel the subscription to avoid an auto renewal. I purchased the subscription Sept 3. The Kiwico person said they count the start the month before (ie August). So then they are able to “auto renew” Before the 6 months is up and then you have to hassle to find a way to contact them to cancel. It took me 10 mins to find their customer service phone no. It is NOWHERE on their website as they want to make it as hard as possible to cancel subscriptions. I found their customer number eventually on a website called pissedconsumer.com which indicates other folks have had a similar experience trying to contact Kiwico. Kiwico stop upsetting your customers by hiding the ways to cancel subscriptions. I may have set this up again for another grandchild but will never use this product again nor recommend to any friends Kiwico CEO -fix this!!

Crates are always lost and never get delivered

I like the crates but they constantly get lost in shipping. I’ve had to email them about 10 times. The first box came and it was great. I decided to order one for my friend and the crates never got delivered. I ordered it in Nov, it didn’t come and I emailed them. They sent a new one in December which also never came. I emailed them again. They sent a new one in January and this also never came so I just cancelled the subscription. I continued with my own, but the 2nd crate never arrived and I had to chase after them. It turns out it was never sent out. They “expedited” it but I didn’t come with the book so I had to reach out again. Now the book is lost in transit and I’m told that I need to wait 3 weeks to see if it comes. If it doesn’t come, I should contact them again. It’s a shame because I do like the crates but I never get them! I won’t be renewing.

Responsive customer service

We have been receiving kiwi crates for a couple of years now. Any problem I've had has been quickly resolved with little fuss. One of the parts was missing from a crate and they posted a replacement out as soon as I contacted them. There was a billing issue that I only noticed a few months down the line and they had no problem sorting this out. We had a couple of duplicate crates. I contacted customer service and the replacements were credited to our account. Their responsiveness and friendliness has guaranteed that we'll continue to subscribe.

The boxes are superb

The boxes are superb. Brilliantly thought out, age-appropriate. The subscription works perfectly, delivers on time every time. They are very well-made products, we have been subscribing for 3 years for 2 children. They are excellent to leave around the house for them to find and do on their own now they're a bit older. They love playing with them once built - even if only for a short while, the skills and self-motivated learning they get out of these little projects has certainly been beneficial. They are soon to grow out of these, but I would like to say a huge thank you to the entire team - these boxes have been a huge bonding point for me and my step-children and I am extremely grateful to know of a company who aim for quality, a very rare gem these days. Thank you again for everything. I recommend to all my family/friends who are now becoming parents - they make smashing little gifts!

From not recommended at all to best customer experience!

At the end of January, I left a first review that was terrible because my packages never arrived... We're in March, and I can now tell you that Amanda and her team have worked really hard to make up for my disappointment, and they've showed absolutely amazing customer service out there. Finally we have received our first crates, and my son loved every single thing about them! More than recommended! Thank you so much for going all the way.

Fals advertisement I bought engineering & designer kit for my 5th grader- what i got was more like arts & crafts for 1st grader. when i tried to hash it out with customer service- some agent called victor was very rude and refused to come to middle to work things out. its just another company trying to take advantage of parents under the name of STEM.

DO NOT BUY GIFTS FROM KIWI CO. Their return policy for gifts is not posted on their website and it makes no sense. We received a play mat as a gift but already had one. There was no receipt and no order number shipped with the gift. So then I went to their site and found that there is no mention of gift returns. The return options are: 1. You pay for return shipping, then they refund the original method of payment, meaning the gift giver is notified that their gift is being returned. 2. You pay for return shipping, then get back in contact with them once your tracking indicates that the package has been delivered at which point, *if they accept the return* you receive a store credit. Are they aware that their primary customers are busy parents of small children? Why can't they have a normal gift return process like any other company of their size in 2024? You are better off buying (and receiving) a gift from a reputable company that has a normal return policy. Update 22 Jan 2024 While KiwiCo reported that they would reach out to me via email to help me resolve this issue immediately after I posted my review, they absolutely have not. I guess they don't like the idea of people posting bad reviews but can't summon the motivation to actually work with customers to do anything about it. Edit Jan 22: Nothing in email or spam. Can you confirm the address you used?

Great customer service

I sent a message about a kit my 91 year old mom purchased for her great grandson. Unsure about delivery timing we sent it to her senior living apartment. Unfortunately it was sent back because her grandson's name was on the box. Customer service was so responsive and understanding. They replied immediately and resent the box to the great grands home since they left after Christmas.

Kiwi has been such a blessing for our 3 year old. She especially loves the darling books about Kellan, Ella, and Peter, the Super Insect book, and the felt stars, turtles, and fish. We plan to buy all the crates as she ages.

Great builds and awesome customer service

We have been getting these crates for the kids for a while and they are never disappointed with the things they get to do. However on one occassion something had broken in transit. KiwiCo emailed us and sent a replacement for my daughter so she could still do the build. Really quick and responsive.

I asked for amount I would be charged for six month renewal including shipping. The reply was friendly, broke everything down and even included the tax addition. It was very helpful and stopped me cancelling my renewal due to not knowing amount. It would be helpful if renewal costs could be seen from the my account page. My son absolutely loves his tinker crates.
